Top 5 Feminine Spring Essentials

Hi ladies,

Hard to believe that it’s already spring! With the warmer weather, there are a few items I consistently reach for during this transitional season – my best friends during this loveliest of seasons. Here are my top 5 feminine spring essentials in no particular order.

1. The Trench Coat

A total classic – this is an absolute must-have in your spring wardrobe. I would encourage you to invest in a good quality coat as this is an item that is very unlikely to go out of style.

I bought my first trench coat as a freshman in college (Brooks Brothers) and I still own it! I’ve owned many others throughout the years (from lesser brands) but I ended up getting rid of them as the quality did not stand the test of time.

Beige is the traditional look but pastels can be lovely this time of year too. Avoid busy patterns though as you’ll probably tire of them. As always, go for a belted version to accentuate the waist and enhance femininity.

And remember, it’s always chicer to knot the belt instead of buckling it.

2. Ballerina Flats

I love ballet and consequently adore wearing the beautiful ballerina shoe any chance I get. Ballerinas are feminine, comfortable, and chic. Nowadays, they are available in every color, fabric, and price point imaginable.

I am partial to Pretty Ballerinas, Sam Edelman, Tory Burch, and other brands that I’ve found in my travels. Lately, I gravitate towards pale pink or nude colors as they elongate the legs (another tip I’ve discovered is that the lower the “cleavage” of the shoe the more slender the leg will appear).

Black is also very elegant (and slimming if worn with black hosiery.) I love ballerinas in spring and summer as they can be worn with absolutely everything and look put together. When I find a pair that fits like a dream, I invest in several as you never know when they will be discontinued!

3. Cute Umbrella

April showers bring May flowers! A cute umbrella is definitely a must in the spring. Why not buy one that sparks joy?

I love those transparent ones the Queen often wears during rainy official engagements. Chantal Thomass, the French lingerie designer, makes some truly beautiful and sophisticated umbrellas. Cath Kidston, the British designer, offers some adorable vintage style floral prints.

Sporting a cheerful umbrella will come in handy on those showery spring days.

4. A-line Floral Skirt

The A-line skirt is universally flattering on any body shape as it accentuates the waist and covers up any problem areas. Whether above or below the knee, it is a spring and summer classic I couldn’t do without.

Worn with a crisp white shirt for a more formal occasion, or with a simple cardigan, this skirt always makes you look feminine and presentable.

Opt for bigger floral patterns rather than small ones. I think they look more elegant and classic.

5. Pastel Cardigan

This is another classic that is not going anywhere. I have lots of cardigans in different colors and fabrics that I wear in spring and summer.

Fifi Chachnil’s iconic angora cardigan is still on my wish list.

In summer, I always carry a little cardigan with me as you never know when the temperature can suddenly drop!

Cardigans are adorable and don’t have to look boring or too conservative. I love wearing them with capri pants and ballerinas or over a lovely dress, skirt, or even jeans.

There’s something so soft, gentle and delicate about a pastel cardigan, especially one in angora. As feminine as it gets!

Those are my top 5 feminine spring essentials. What are some of yours? I hope you have a lovely spring season and I look forward to hearing from you.
