5 Summer Shoes To Avoid

Perhaps the following shoes are not even in your wardrobe and you might be thinking… well of course I would never wear that in the summer!

But some of you might be wearing these items around the house, just because they’re comfortable and they’re there.

So many times we wear things on auto-pilot because they happen to be there and we’re too tired to look for another alternative or purchase something new.

I confess I have worn some of these in the past and I do own one of the following but only wear it for a very specific occasion. Drumroll please!

1.Crocs

I can proudly say I have never even tried on a pair of Crocs in my entire life. I’m afraid if I did try one I would end up wanting them (that’s what happened when I tried on a pair of Uggs).

Suffice it to say, these shoes are hideous. Maybe you wear them around the house and think what’s the big deal?

Well, even if no one, not even your husband saw you, you see yourself! How you feel when you wear something is actually of the utmost importance!

It affects your mood, your self-image and the quality of your entire day.

If you use Crocs for gardening, may I suggest a pair of wooden clogs or some wellies?

2.Flip-Flops

I have owned many a flip-flop, I’ll admit!

As a teenager, I thought they were super cute. My mom bought me a turquoise pair from J. Crew and I thought they were gorgeous!

I wore them to class one day in high school (at the time we were living in Paris).

I remember everyone giving me funny looks. Because I walked to school every day, I got some pretty bad blisters and I had to ask the school secretary for a band-aid (there was no school nurse).

I can still recall the headmistress Madame Conchard (who wore very high heels every single day even though she took the metro) purring “why are you wearing zose shoes?” with her charming French accent.

I was mortified.

There I was, with what I thought were these adorable J.Crew flip-flops and I had made a serious fashion faux-pas. Dare I say it, my flip-flops were a major flop.

These days, I do own a pair or two but I exclusively use them to go to the pool or beach.

3.SLides

Slides are a little bit better than the flip-flop but not by much. I would also relegate these to the pool or beach.

They are not feminine at all even if you find a pair with feminine details. Think about it, even men wear these!

I don’t own a pair and don’t plan to get one. Plus, they are super unatractive when you walk especially if you drag your feet.

4.Gladiator sandals

Ladies, I don’t want you to wear these even if you’re going to a Roman theme party. They are super unflattering on even the most svelte legs. I’m talking about the ones that go up to the knee.

But even the more subtle ones (like the famous Tropeziennes), are not very feminine. They also do not do your leg any favors.

Too much leather and straps just don’t seem very ladylike, quite the opposite in fact.

5.Birkenstocks

I’ve saved the worst for last! The famous Birkenstock.

No, just NO!

I don’t care how many designers have tried to revamp it and how many celebrities wear them.

They have to be one of the ugliest shoes in existence. Please. Just. Don’t.

I really don’t have much else to say on the topic of Birkenstocks. As a general reference, if a man can wear your shoes and look manly that should ring all sorts of alarms!
