Top 5 Feminine Fall Essentials

Welcome back, dear ones. Don’t you just love the cooler days and cozy nights that autumn brings? I hope I’m not the only one who longs for fall and doesn’t miss the summer heat one bit.

Some women say it is harder to dress femininely in the fall or winter than in the warmer months. I think that with a bit of planning and attention to detail we can definitely express our femininity and look our best in the colder seasons.

Without further ado, here are five of my elegant and feminine fall essentials that truly never go out of style!

1. Classic Belted Coat

Ali McGraw & Ryan O’Neill in Love Story (1970).

The classic belted coat is an absolute must-have. In terms of color, camel is a good choice as it goes with everything but I’m also partial to red, burgundy, or even green (emerald or olive depending on what suits your complexion.)

A masterclass in feminine fall style can be found in the classic film Love Story (1970). Yes, it’s quite preppy but so timeless! You could easily wear any of Ali McGraw’s outfits today and look super chic.

The classic fall coat does not have to be belted necessarily. I feel that in order to emphasize your femininity you need to accentuate your waist, and a belt is the easiest way to do that. However, an A-line or princess coat would work just as well without a belt .

Blake Lively in The Age of Adaline (2015).

Another source of fall fashion inspiration can be found in the film The Age of Adaline (2015). This wonderful film has a classic autumnal palette and Blake Lively’s character has such a unique wardrobe. You can check out Blake Lively’s lovely outfits here.

2. Equestrian Boots

Equestrian style boots are definitely my footwear of choice in the colder months. They are timeless, comfortable, and you can wear them with anything! They look chic with an A-line skirt, sweater dress, jeans, you name it.

Whether you get them in brown or black leather just make sure your handbag matches! I find suede is a little too high maintenance and leather is so much easier to take care of and will last much longer.

It’s funny how a riding boot can be quite feminine these days. But in today’s world where most women are donning sneakers or Uggs, wearing an equestrian type boot can really elevate your whole ensemble.

On the subject of boots, I have to confess I tend to avoid the whole over-the-knee boot trend (I don’t think it’s flattering unless you have super slim legs).

It’s also a little bit too provocative in my opinion and not elegant. Sexy and trendy? Yes. Elegant and timeless? Nope.

3. Knitwear with Cute Details

Source: Ted Baker

I just love looking for cute sweaters with unusual and cute details. Bows are definitely at the top of the list but it could be little pearls, fluted sleeves, or an off the shoulder style. All of these details are decidedly feminine and add a certain je ne sais quoi to your whole outfit.

I find that I am avoiding V-necks and anything with a collar lately. It makes me feel very masculine for some reason. This didn’t use to be the case and I guess it’s just my personal experience.

However, I would encourage you to analyze which pieces you love or feel great in and figure out what it is exactly about them that sparks joy for you. Is it the color, the material, or the shape?

4. Classic Beret

This classic is here to stay. I think berets suit just about everybody and are an adorable addition to your fall/winter wardrobe. I have two in my collection at the moment (gray and burgundy).

Wearing them with a matching colored coat and gloves makes me feel incredibly feminine. Just give it a try, and let me know what you think.

5. Leather Gloves

Last but not least: A pair of feminine gloves! Gloves don’t have to just be functional. Why not express your feminine self through your gloves too?

I love the ones above with a little faux-fur trim. I also have some with little leather bows, buttons, and even mittens with little pearls. (They look a bit childish, I know, but I just couldn’t resist a bit of whimsy!).

The possibilities are really endless, so find a pair that makes you feel sophisticated and also keeps you warm. Just make sure to color-coordinate it with your coat, handbag, and shoes. I’m not saying they all have to be same color but it certainly makes it easier when you’re in a rush and it just looks more polished.

So those are my top 5 Feminine Fall essentials. What are some of yours? Do you also look forward to fall?

Hoping you all stay safe and cozy and enjoy this new season.

xoxo, Mrs. Hannover
